Each day, LAPP cables play a crucial role in a wide variety of automated manufacturing applications—including automotive,
packaging, food and beverage, machine tools and more. Now, we’ve expanded our reach to a challenging, large-format
aerospace manufacturing application.

LAPP’s ÖLFLEX® SERVO FD 796 CP cable was recently chosen for a highprofile composite manufacturing cell for aircraft wings. From setting the
spars to laying on the skin, this robotic manufacturing cell constructs
the entire wing from start to finish. The cell’s machinery required a cable
with continuous flexibility, as well as a small outside diameter and overall
construction.
Here’s why the ÖLFLEX® SERVO FD 796 CP cable fit the bill:
THE RIGHT SPECS
ÖLFLEX® SERVO FD 796 CP supports high-velocity travel with
accelerations up to 50 m/s2
. It also offers flex performance at distances
up to 328 feet. The cable’s ability to keep pace with long-travel, fastmoving robotic systems was crucial in this application.
The key to meeting these requirements is the cable’s construction. It
consists of finely stranded bare copper conductors, polypropylene
conductor insulation, shielded pairs, and overall tinned copper braid with
85% coverage. It also comes with a non-woven material that wraps over
the braid and a specially formulated orange polyurethane outer jacket.
Other features of this cable include:

• Travel speeds up to 5 m/s
• Low-capacitance design
• Halogen-free materials
• Oil resistance
• Flame retardance:
– UL/CSA: VW-1, FT1
– IEC/EN: 60332-1-2
• Low temperature performance to -40°C

LESS INVENTORY

Before discovering ÖLFLEX® SERVO FD 796 CP, the wing manufacturer
used both stationary and continuous flex cables. By upgrading to our
cable, the entire motion profile is covered by just one cable, ultimately
reducing inventory and the number of parts.
